Solar Eclipse 2006

I think this guy wins the solar eclipse viewing creativity award. He's using an x-ray (of somebody's head I might add) to view the solar eclipse today. And I have to put the following pic up that JC had on his blog. It's just too precious.

Gabo pics

Okay, so I know this only applies to the fellow Gabon RPCV's but the pics may still be cute. With all the emails that went around lately (beginning with Erick's wonderful discovery that our own Geoffrey Gursel is on American Idol, performing under the alias of "Ace Young"...see pics below), I started thinking a lot about Peace Corps and how the memories will honestly last a lifetime. So I'm making Wednesday Peace Corps pic day. Today's pick: Lauren (aka: "Maverick") at La Terrase. Hope you enjoy.

Congratulations

So in the theme of everyone "growing up," some congratulations are in order. I would like to point out, however, that despite the age that brings a brand of responsibility to it, I still remain very young and irresponsible. Congratulations to one of my best Peace Corps buddies, Haley, on her engagement (see pic). Voila la marriage! Congratulations to little Tom on his engagement. May your wedding be filled with Regab and the Dumbolo! Congratulations to Danielle on her pregnancy (see pic). She lost her home in New Orleans after the hurricane and I'm glad to see she's still doing well...stomping around in the marsh total Danielle style!

Further Evidence

Liquid water on Saturn moon could support life
Cassini spacecraft sees signs of geysers on icy Enceladus

Scientists have found evidence that cold, Yellowstone-like geysers of water are issuing from a moon of Saturn called Enceladus (I like to pronounce it "enchiladas"), apparently fueled by liquid reservoirs that may lie just tens of yards beneath the moon's icy surface. The surprising discovery, detailed in Friday's issue of the journal Science, could shoot Enceladus to the top of the list in the search for life elsewhere in our solar system. Scientists described it as the most important discovery in planetary science in a quarter-century.

In other words, those little green men are just a little closer!

Dedication

Someone pass this girl the spirit stick! If you haven't heard this story yet- this past weekend, a Southern Illinois University cheerleader, Kristi Yamaoka, fell 15 feet from a stunt and landed on her head. She had a concussion, a chipped neck vertebra (essentially a broken neck), and a collapsed lung. Yet she still managed to cheer to the school's fight song as she was being carried off the court on a stretcher causing the crowd to go wild. Now that's a dedicated cheerleader!
